to the first of two meetings Dealing with Obamacare

We are honored to Present Senior Legislative Analyst Jack McHugh from the Mackinaw Center

SHUR is happy to announce that Jack McHugh will be our guest speaker at our May 22nd meeting.  Jack will be speaking on the consequences of the state contracting with the Federal Government to expand Medicaid as provided in the Obamacare bill.  The Supreme Court ruled that states could opt out of this part of Obamacare.  This will be part 1 of a 2 part series regarding Obamacare.  At the June 26th meeting we will be discussing how Obamacare will affect all of us.

Jack McHugh is the Mackinac Center for Public Policy’s senior legislative analyst and editor of MichiganVotes.org, a unique Web site that provides searchable,sortable legislator voting record information. Users on the site can find concise, plain-English descriptions of every bill, vote and amendment in the state House and Senate. During 11 years at the Mackinac Center McHugh has described more than 24,000 bills; 20,000 roll call votes and 5,000 new laws. These can all be searched and sorted on the MichiganVotes.org Web site. Jack McHugh is also the co-author of a book on Midwest mountain bike trails.

The Mackinac Center is a non-partisan free market think tank.

Sterling Heights e-news

 *2.5 mills would equate to a $157 or $13 per month increase in their current total property tax bill. (Sterling Heights millage increase to go on ballot to be discussed at Tues., May 21 Council meeting)

• Vanderpool wants a Charter Amendment to make this millage increase a dedicated millage that will go on forever
• The article  neglected to report that the taxpayers are already paying 2.06 mills for Police and Fire Pensions
• The millage may be one ballot question and voters will vote it up or down
